Palette's summer treats diary; June 13th,2010

In the previous entry titled "Walking your dogs", I wrote about how excited our dog, "Palette" becomes when she hears the command "Go get leash". Going for walk is her highlight of the day. And after we back home, she gets to have cool down treats  (frozen Yogurt cube  treats)  I make, and she lines up in front of freezer door and grab one cube from my hands and enjoys crunching down and she usually rest on cool bed before meal, and takes naps after meal.

Here in this "Palette's summer treats dairy" series, I thought it would be interesting for you to tour around our kitchen to see what kinds of cool down treats she is getting. Now, I will pass a pen to Palette to write her diary here.

 Dear diary,

As always, my mom got ready for walkie, and called me from bottom from the stairs. "Palette, go get a leash".

Here I come with my leash..

Bring my walkie leash to mom..

 Are we ready for walkie?

Today, we went for walkie near lake area at early morning. The route has more trees around and we walked under shadows and I had fun sniffing out today's doggy daily news. On the way home, I found a particular mail post that had so much to read. I wanted to sniff out more of doggy daily news on the mail post, I was too stumpy to read a full article. I need a piggyback ride to read a full article..

Walkie with mom is fun, and I love it, but one more little thing I always look forward to is mom's frozen treats.

Today was Frozen mango carrot yogurt treats.. Mom said it is close to running out..

 Frozen mango carrot yogurt treats..

Here is how you make them.

1. To the mixer, add 5 oz of peeled raw baby carrot, 5 oz of mango, 5 oz of Stoneyfield organic plain yogurt , and puree them.

2. Pour those onto ice cube tray and freeze

** This will be about one ice cube tray with my mom's and makes 16 blocks of treats.

** Frozen mango carrot yogurt treats whole ice cube tray is roughly about 225 kcal (you can see more detail here at nutritiondata.com website). So, each ice cube given is about 14kcal

** Mom wanted rough kcal to be as close to real one, and she used Nutrition fact food label on the back of yogurt she used. She typed in the information provided in the nutrition label on the yogurt..

After our walkie, I saw mom working on another frozen treats for next week. This time, she made a frozen banana bok choy yogurt treats. Mom got bok choy more than she needed for cooking, and decided to share with me. I know it sounds weird but it is tasty! Make my nose wet

Frozen banana bok choy yogurt treats..

2. Pour those onto ice cube tray and freeze

** Frozen banana bok choy yogurt treats whole ice cube tray is roughly about 253 kcal (you can see more detail here at nutritiondata.com website). So, each ice cube given is about 16 kcal

** Mom wanted rough kcal to be as close to real one, and she used Nutrition fact food label on the back of yogurt she used, and bok choy leaves package she bought. She typed in the information provided in the nutrition label on the yogurt and bok choy leaves..

I said " Can I taste test the frozen banana bok choy yogurt treats"?

 Hmm..This smells so good..

See my wet nose?? Hmm.. it smell so good.. I taste tested the new frozen yogurt treats and it was paw licking good!

Hey, mom. I see another one on the plate. Can I get one too for "taste testing"?

I see one more on the plate..

Mom said "nope". But I got a good idea!

Can I go for walkie again??

My good idea did not work, but I love to go for walkie and I love mom's treats. It has been quite hot here and day time usually around 95F these days.. Mom said we should go for walkie at cooler time so that I do not get overheated.

Through the windows, I saw a couple of furriends on walkie again. I hope they did not get overheated.

When outside is too hot to go for walkie or rainy days, mom and I play fetch ball, Frisbee, "Find it" game along with training. It all fun too! Stay cool and enjoy summer!

MMMMmmmm.... These frozen treats look SOOOO GOOOOODDD!!! Grammy says that she thinks SHE would like to have some too! We think we will easily be able to talk her into making the mango treats for us... probably not the banana ones though cause she is allergic to them and she loves them, so doesn't want to be tempted by smelling one...

Palette says mom put "summer treats diary" in the series title, but she gets all year round and always one of her favorite treats after exercise/bathing etc. Since she knows that she gets the yummy frozen treats after bathing time, she never mind being bathed

She trots to the kitchen as fast as she can after released from shower room, and sit and wait on me in front of her freezer. That makes me smile. She knows her routine very well.

I usually taste bit of her cool down treats with curiosity, and sometimes, odd combination tastes good.

For frozen treats for human, you could make with fresh fruits; puree with yogurt or add some fruits jams into yogurt and add a bit of sugar if needed and pour yogurt mixture into empty Jell-O cups and freeze. This will be good alternative to commercially made frozen treats.
