Unique food/drinks;smoked salmon vodka,bacon vodka,bacon chocolate bar
These days, many unique food/drinks are popping out on the market. One day, I came across the article on the newspaper about salmon vodka.
According to writer "Mark Thiessen", the company named "Alaska Distillery" launched smoked salmon flavored vodka. It was created to market a local vodka and to complement Bloody Marys.
How they make the smoked salmon vodka is that, after salmon is smoked, salmon skin is removed, and salmon meat are mashed, then ethanol is added. After that, they would strain it and smoke salmon flavored liquid (liquid part when they strain the salmon meat with ethanol) is added to the regular vodka to make one.

1 year before this smoked salmon flavored vodka is created, Bakon vodka was created. This was also to complement Bloody Marys. It also seems to be used in cream based drinks with chocolate, in a drink called "Luau"-mixture of pineapple juice, butterscotch, and vodka etc. At the website of Bakon vodka creator "Black Rock Spirits", you can find recipes using their Bakon vodka.
My husband and I love vodka pasta; basically, pasta with marinara sauce plus dash of heavy cream and dash of regular vodka, but it may go well with this bakon vodka. It might enhance the smokiness in the dish well and might be tasty.

Other than Bakon vodka, there is bacon beer although it is not commercially available yet. Brooklyn Brewery made 21 cases of Bacon beer for special events. When they could come up with simplified process to make this rare flavored beer, you may be able to enjoy their rare flavored beer.

Adding to those unique flavored drinks, there are many other bacon flavored food. So far, I found Baconnaise, Bacon salt, Bacon flavored Ranch, Bacon beans Jellybeans, Bacon flavored popcorn, and last but not least Bacon chocolate.
You can look at the Baconnaise,Bacon salt,Bacon Ranch at JD foods website here.
You can look at bacon beans Jelly beans at Archie McPhee website here .
At the website above, I saw bacon flavored floss,Bacon flavored toothpicks,Bacon soap etc.. I love Bacon but I am not sure if I love the Bacon enough to smell like them..
Very first time when I heard about Bacon chocolate bar was on Rachael Ray show. I was iffy for the taste, but Rachael said it tasted so good on the show. At the local grocery store, I did not see it anyway so I forgot about it.
However, new grocery store has opened near us, and the store was like Whole Foods meets Asian store meets regular grocery store, and they carry all kinds of things from Organic foods to Imported foods, along with regular stuff. Now and then,I find very interesting food there and I love the grocery store.
That grocery store had this Bacon chocolate bar called "Mo's Bacon Bar" and, I was iffy for the taste still but my curious mind wanted to know what it taste like, and I bought one to try. The bar itself on the internet seems run around $8 but I got one at about $6.It is still costly compare to regular chocolate bars but I think it was fun experiment, and yes, it tasted good. You can find the Bacon Chocolate bar at Vosges chocolate company website here .

As you can see in the picture above, there are chunks of bacon bits in the bar. If you just taste the chocolate without chewing, what you would be left with is a bacon bits. Bacon chocolate bar uses applewood smoked uncured bacon with alderwood smoked salt in milk chocolate with 45% cacao.
I admit I was unsure if I like the chocolate or not, but I like them. Saltiness and smokiness coming from bacon and salt are complemented well with sweet chocolate.
It is kind of like chocolate dipped pretzel with smoky bacon flavor. When you first put a piece of Bacon chocolate into your mouth, what you would taste most is saltiness with bit of sweetness, then as you eat, smokiness is coming through.
I love chocolate and, this Bacon chocolate bar may come second in my favorite chocolate list.Top in my list is dark chocolate.
What is interesting to me other than taste of the bacon chocolate is how the bacon chocolate bar was created. When you flip the box of chocolate bar, you can read a story behind the creation of the Bacon chocolate bar.
It reads, as a kid, the creator "Katrina" had chocolate chip pancake with maple syrup and 3 strips of bacon for breakfast. She thought that eating a strip of bacon alone was too salty, so she ate with sweet chocolate chip pancakes. That is how she came up with the idea of this Bacon chocolate bar.
As I write this entry, I was snacking this Bacon flavored chocolate bar and realized I ate half the bar already.. I will leave the half for my husband to try. I am interested to hear how he thinks of this chocolate bar.
Our stumpy dog "Palette" enjoyed the "smell" of Bacon chocolate with wet nose. Too bad chocolate is toxic for her (dogs). If it were made out of carob with real bacon bits, she could have enjoyed them a lot although it does not mean that is good for them
Now I have to wonder whether everything must taste like Bacon? I found so many things with Bacon flavored..

WOW! THIS was a VERY interesting post! I would never have thought about Bacon or Salmon flavored vodka OR Bacon flavored Chocolate. I don't drink much more than a tiny taste here and there because of diabetes, but I LOVE Smokes Salmon and wonder if that part of the flavor would come through if using that vodka for cooking where the alcohol would cook off.
Since I don't know if they would have bacon chocolate bars around here, and that is kind of expensive, I might just try taking a bite of chocolate and a bite of bacon and see what the mixtures taste like. I have always loved to eat my pancakes with syrup and bacon to get the sweet and salty mixture in taste, and I like Pay Day candy bars because of that mixture of tastes, too, so I might really like it. Probably wouldn't be good for me anyway, though.
I DO eat some special Dark Chocolate because it is so high in the antioxidants and they say 1 oz. a day is very good for you.
Thanks again for such an interesting post that's given me so much to think about!

I cook a lot with wines, but I do not drink. I would imagine if you use smoke salmon vodka in dish, concentrated salmon flavor might be the flavor you would taste in your dish.
With Bacon chocolate bar.. I really enjoyed snacking them.It probably is one of my favorite snack to snack on.
After reading your comments, I thought if you melt Dark chocolate in double boiler to smooth, silky texture and if you put chopped crunchy Bacon pieces and stir them well and pour to molding container, it might create similar stuff to Bacon chocolate bar although ingredients detail might not be exactly the same to the one I had.
In the past, when I backed to Japan, my sister got me chocolate dipped potato chips. It is salty and sweet mix snack and it was odd at first, but I really liked them.
But I am Chocoholic and I love Chocolate. Chocolate makes everything tastes good

i have a friend who made bacon pancakes. While the pancake is on the grill (with the top still wet and bubbly), and before you flip it, lay your bacon right on top, THEN flip. The bacon gets cooked into the pancake. I guess that's not too weird of a recipe though. I also heard recently of strawberry ice cream with a bit of hoisin sauce on top! It actually sounds quite good

When I imagine breakfast pancake, I imagine sweet, desert style pancake but then, when you think about Japanese savory pancake "Okonomi yaki" (you can see recipe in the previous entry titled " Japanese cooking:Okonomiyaki"), savory breakfast pancake with bacon might not be that odd. I may experiment breakfast pancake with Bacon as you described and see how it comes out.
Strawberry ice cream with hoisin sauce is very new to me. It seems this is another salty-sweet combination desert. It might be tasty. Have you tried one?
