Palette's note:Hare ears
When you pick up treats for your
dogs, what would you look at?
Ingredients? Fancy looking pictures? Description of the products?
Have you ever wondered if you could actually see how other dogs are enjoying them? Not pictures, but in video so that you can actually HEAR and feel the treats' textures?
Some of you may have already recognized I have been putting up treats' taste testing video on youtube so that people can hear the sound, and see Palette in action and get more detail on each products.
With "Palette's note" series,I like to put taste test videos. This time, "Hare ears (6 ears/package)".

Hare ears...
Hare ears made in Argentina. This package will come with eco friendly resealable bag and one package contains 6 ears.
This treats is soft texture, and crunchy like potato chips and they are great as small snacks.
Ear is roughly about 3" - 5" long.
When I go get the Hare ears, here comes Palette trotting to me as fast as she can with wet nose so she would not miss the chance of hare ear treats.
I even did not call her name then, but she knows she has something to looking forward to if she comes to me as fast as she can.
When she comes around me, her eyes glued to the Hare ears, and she gets very excited. Then, she starts twirling backward as I walk forward to get to her doggy bed so she can eat the treats on her bed.
This treats sure can put a huge smile on her face and,she enjoys every bite of it.
At our house, Palette gets "Snack before bed", and snack can vary depending on availability and I have given small snack like this one too.
Things that never change is that she dashes to her crate as soon as we back from potty before bed, and I find her in the crate lie down with drool bubbles around muzzle.
She knows the routine, and she knows she gets something yummy before bed. Always " Lets go bed" makes her big ears perk up and get her so excited to go bed.
After switching Palette's diet to fresh diet a.k.a raw diet, I have realized so many dog treats that are sold as "all natural dog treats" especially Jerky treats are filled with sea salt, garlic, sugar, lecithin(additives),rice flour etc and also some are fortified with vitamins.
Some Jerky sold as wild caught salmon Jerky is gray colored sandy texture although wild caught salmon is bright orange color, and if manufacturers have used meat as main ingredient,it should be fibrous not sandy texture. It seemed like they had more brown rice flour than actual salmon meat.
There are rabbit Jerky on the market, but look at the label and see what are in them. If manufacturers wanted to provide best possible rabbit Jerky for your dogs, using only one simple ingredient;rabbit meat, should be more than enough and should not need any other ingredients to enhance the flavor for the treats.
Here is an example of ingredients list for not so all natural rabbit Jerky treats; Rabbit, Ground Rice, Ground Barley, Malted Barley, Gelatin, Vegetable Glycerin, Tapioca, Brewers Yeast, Natural Flavors, Fish Oil, Lecithin, Salt, Phosphoric Acid (a natural acidifier), Sorbic Acid (a preservative), Mixed Tocopherols, Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C).
Rabbit meat is actually the top ingredients list but,if you look closer, other ingredients are mostly grain and fortified with vitamins.
Another one I have found is much better than the one above but ingredients goes;Rabbit meat, Rye flour, and salt.
What I do not understand is why denature the perfect protein source with added ingredients and use less meat, and bulk them up with added ingredients..
What exactly is "Natural flavors" in the ingredients list? I do not like the fact that they never specify what kind of natural flavor they needed to add to perfectly good rabbit meat to add more flavor..
With common sense, you can make Jerky cheaper if use less meat and bulk them up with other ingredients but, as quality goes, it is not as good as the one that one protein source is simply being used to make treats without any fillers.
1 single ingredient Jerky is superior in quality and, dog would not need any other flavor enhancing agent in the treats.
Also, some Jerky, just like the first example above, is preserved with Vitamin E (Mixed tocopherol) and Mixed tocopherols is delivered from soybean oil.
Some dogs, including our K9 executive chef "Palette" reacts to natural Vitamin E delivered from soy. She starts chewing paws. Therefore,we are very picky about treats.
Some are preserved with rosemary oil. Some dogs (Dogs with EPI) might react to Rosemary in treats because rosemary can be a trigger for seizure for EPI dogs.
We wanted to offer treats made with simple ingredients without any fillers, and you would not find "All natural Jerky treats" that has 39 ingredients in the list at our store.
As a side note, there are also other rabbit Jerky on the market and, if you look ingredients on the label, it is simply made with rabbit meat fillet. It looks good, but what some online retailers do not tell you is that sometimes, those are made in China.
We do not offer treats made in China and all of the treats we offer are made with simple ingredients and, we are very selective as to what treats we offer to your furry friends.
Hare ears treats is one of Palette's favorite treats in the world and her nose gets very wet, bubbles around her mouth and I get a little twirl, twirl, nice sit in front of me if I have this treats. Sometimes, she gets inpatients and whiny.
She really,really loves this treats.
