Ikebana (flower arrangement) in Japan Part II

 In the previous entry titled "Ikebana (Flower arrangement) in Japan", I wrote that flower arrangement (I-ke-ba-na) is art of traditional flower arrangement,and just like tea ceremony styles, there are variety of styles for the flower arrangement.

 Then, I have explained 3 styles of flower arrangement; I-ke-no-bo-u, so-u-ge-tsu, and o-ha-ra.

 Here, I would like to show you the basic technique of I-ke-ba-na (flower arrangement), which some of them could be used for the flowers you have at home.

<How to cut>

 Very first thing you do with your flowers before placing them into your vase is to trim the unnecessary leaves on the bottom stem and cut the branches in oblique sections.

 Then, cut the tip of the stem diagonally in the water so they can absorb water more.

 To shape flowers with branches for better look, you can bend the branch using your thumbs.

<How to fix>

 One unique tool we use for frower arrangement is called "Ke-n za-n" and it is a spiked holder.

 If you use Ke-n za-n to fix branch, you would pierce them vertically and then, tilt them.

 If it were for stalk flowers, pierce them into desired angle.

 If it were very thin branches you cannot pierce the stalk into Ke-n za-n, you can use the thicker stalk already pierced into Ke-n za-n and tie it with thin branch on the bottom so they can get support by them.

<How to arrange flowers>

 As I have mentioned in the previous entry titled "Ikebana (Flower arrangement) in Japan",there are variety of flower arrangement styles in Japan, but you can enjoy your own way to arrange the flowers from your back garden as well.

 Basic of flower arrangement goes like this.

1. Pick a couple of different types of flowers you like to arrange,and trim the leaves and cut the tip of the stem diagonally in the water

2. Pick vase, add water and put the green Styrofoam block "Oasisu foam" that has been soaked into water

3. Arrange the biggest flower in the center and next biggest flower to your right hand side,then next biggest flower goes on your left hand side.

4. After that arrange flower right upper top, left bottom side,left upper top, and then right bottom side to arrange.

5. Then, put smaller flower to fill the space between the big flowers in the vase.

 If you learn Japanese flower arrangement, you will see that they are unique as to how they look,how they are arranged and they are slightly different from what you normally would be familiar with.

 We use branches,greens,flowers etc.. and all sorts of unique vase to create the beautiful arrangement piece.

 I came across the youtube vido where you can see all kinds of flower arrangement exhibition in Japan.
