Amazing Japanese dog circus “Super Wan wan Circus”

If you follow my blog entries, you will notice that I love teaching Palette fun tricks besides basic obedience tricks such as sit-stay etc.

I enjoy training her because she is very eager to learn the new thing, and she gets so excited when she gets it right. She gives me huge Corgi smile on her with her tongue hanging out as if she is very proud of herself.

Palette has been trained with clicker since the puppyhood.

When we enrolled into puppy training class, we were introduced to the clicker training and, I found it very effective way to teach her many things and she seems to have fun learning new things as much as I do.Therefore,I have been sticking with the clicker training ever since.

I like the clicker training because dogs are much more eager to learn things, and clicker’s unique sound can deliver the exact moment dogs did right, and it has no miscommunication between us as to what behavior got rewarded. Thus, it results in fast learning.

I also like the that the training is not like a doggy boot camp.

With clicker training, you can teach them wide variety of things.

Even if you will take only 5 minutes training session daily with your dogs, it is worth it. The key for the good training is to be consistent and be patient. Clicker training is fun for both of you,and it is good for your dogs too.

Training is a great mental exercise for your dogs because especially with the clicker training, the dogs “think” and try act accordingly to see if any of their behavior gets us to click the clicker to earn the reward. In a way, clicker training is a thinking game for them.

Just recently, I came across the youtube video from Tsukuba, Chiba prefecture in Japan about Dog circus called “Super Wan wan Circus”.

Chiba prefecture is where the Tokyo Narita Airport, Tokyo Disneyland, and Tokyo Disney sea are located at and, right next to Tokyo.

“Wan wan” is the sound we describe dog’s barking sound.

In the state, people say “Bow wow” to describe dog’s barking sound but it is different to our ears.

The Dog Circus has been in the business for over 50 years and, they have been rescuing the shelter dogs and trains them to perform amazing tricks, and trying to send the message to people around the world not to give up on these talented amazing dogs.

Interesting fact about the Wan wan circus is that, they have 3 Guinness world records;. jumping ropes,  how many times dogs can walk around trainer’s neck within 30 seconds, and jumping trainer’s spinning legs.

I like the fact that they seem to be using the positive training method rather than boot camp style training and all dogs seems to be eager to perform with the trainers with big smile on them. Both trainers and dogs seem to be having a great bonding time via training session.

Moscow stray dogs use the subways

Do you think your dog is smarter than you think they are?

What if I tell you that there is a dog or group of dogs that get on board the train and they can get on and off at the certain station all the time?

How do they figure it out it is “the” station they would need to get off the train?

Is it a visual factor:any visual marker they use?

Is it scent factor;smell that particular station gives off when the train stopped at?

 Or none of the above?

Recently,I came across the article about dogs living in Moscow who uses train to go get food and come back to their area by train. Isn’t it amazing story?

I was especially intrigued by the fact that the dogs never missed the station to get off to go get the food and I was curious how they figured it out that it was their stop.

According to Englishrussia website, the stray dogs in Moscow uses metro every morning to downtown Moscow to go get the food.

How they not miss their stop when they uses metro?

The article states that the biologist in Moscow say that the dogs have sense of time. Thus, the sense of time helps them not miss their stop.

As for another amazing skills; cross the road when green light, the biologists say that they are reacting to the picture on the traffic lights not the color “green”.

 How they get their food?

The article says that dog see the guy purchasing the fast food for example and they stalk the person from behind and the dog gives loud woof to surprise the person.

The person gets surprised and most likely drop food and that is when the dog comes in to claim the food.

This is indeed the fascinating story about dogs in Moscow.

You can read more on the Moscow dogs and see pictures of them at the website englishrussia website here.

Last year, around Halloween, I have posted about canine actors “Scotty and Joey-Halloween adventure”; short film shoot by their mom “Charlene” ,who clicker trained “Scotty” and “Joey”, and started making short movies using actions/behavior only taught by clicker training method.

It was an amazing film and, it was also one of most viewed entry during the holiday seasons.

Therefore, I decided to introduce more of canine films made by kikopup at youtube.

I think kids would enjoy watching them as well.

Exercise,Palette’s way

When I have an empty cereal box,I sometime use it for fun play with Palette.

I put 1 bit of treat inside the empty cereal box,and close it (No tape or staple, please). Then,I shake a little so that she knows something in there. Then,I put it on the floor, let her wait and she tries to get to the treat on cue.

When I tried with her first time, she was nosing it around, dig with one paw gently, stared at me as if to say “I need help”, and took her a bit long time to figure out how to open it by herself.

Now,she is like a pro.She jumps on it,let the air inside push it open and then shake/tear and she gets the treat inside. After treat is gone, she plays with it.

This is quite an exercise.I found it funny,so I took video to share fun with you.

I was tough mom so,I did not tell her even a bit how to open the box. She figured it out by herself.Good dog, smart dog, that is my dog Palette

BUT I think you should not try with heavy corrugated box.It maybe too tough to their teeth.

Exercise!! Palette’s way

What would your dogs would do if I give them the same empty cereal box with treat inside??
